From my home based office I can see palm trees, bougainvillea … and anyone who walks up the path to the front door. We ran a Facebook Marketing webinar today and Natalie and I were on the phone after the webinar discussing the finer points of the webinar when I see a delivery person walking down the path.
Surprised, I go to the door. I’m not expecting any deliveries. I haven’t ordered anything! Suspiciously I sign for the delivery. I don’t like those ‘sign on the screen’ thingies … what happened to the dotted line? I do however want to keep up with modern technology so now I’ll sign my name, whereas at first I would only put an ‘x’ there. Haha.
So I’m curiously looking at this parcel. It’s addressed to me. But what is it and who is it from. I can be suspicious at times. I’ve heard about bombs being delivered in parcels, but surely not … It has a bright red Australia Post sticker on it saying “scan events required” so I figure all must be well. They’ve scanned the parcel and not found anything suspicious.
Then I see that it’s from Send Out Cards. Oh, … sigh, we are members of Send Out Card and use them to keep in contact with customers, business associates, etc. But why is this parcel coming to me? Although we use it for business, it is Natalie who is the actual member so any correspondence goes to her.
I further investigate and find out that the parcel is from Natalie Alaimo ℅ Send Out Cards! Oh, so now I realise that this parcel is actually for me … then I remember I’ve got a birthday coming up in a new days. The excitement starts to grow as I slowly open the parcel. The first thing I see is a card with “You are a real treasure in my life. A constant source of Joy and happiness”. Now who wouldn’t have a smile on their face?
I can see a green box with white polka dots on the lid. It’s covered in bubble wrap. You know that bubble wrap with really big bubbles. I tentatively remove the bubble wrap, remove the green box from the mailing box and open the lid. I see the most beautiful green polka dot espresso cups. I was kinda expecting a food hamper so finding these cute cups was so exciting and unexpected.
So does anyone really care about my thoughts or how I feel about receiving this gift. Well there’d be maybe one or two, three at a pinch. You can imagine who they would be, right? … mother, daughter, best friend!
But what about your clients. You’d be happy if they had these feelings about receiving a gift from you. Maybe the card wouldn’t be the same wording as mine as it’s more of a personal one, but there are plenty of others that would evoke a similar feeling. We are more and more living in a digital age, and it’s nice to receive a parcel or card in the mail. While a “Thank You” or “You’re Invited” is great via email, Facebook, text, or other digital device, once in a while it’s just lovely to receive something in the mail.
